Michel Petit, ancien maire est décédé

Au décès de son père, il va habiter avec sa mère à Cozes, chez ses grands-parents. Il exerce ensuite la profession de viticulteur au petit village de Thomeil à Arces. Il est élu au sein du Conseil municipal en 1959, où il sera nommé adjoint au maire.

En 1965, alors âgé de 39 ans, il devient maire et exerce cette fonction pendant quatre mandats. Il aura donc consacré cinq mandats (trente ans) en tant qu’élu municipal à la commune d’Arces-sur-Gironde.


Parmi les grands travaux réalisés sous sa mandature, on peut souligner entre autres la construction de la mairie actuelle et de la salle des fêtes ainsi que la consolidation du mur de l’église.

Il a été décoré du Mérite agricole et, durant de nombreuses années, il a oeuvré en tant que président du Crédit agricole.

Michel Petit est décédé samedi dernier à l’âge de 86 ans, ses obsèques ont lieu cet après-midi à 15 heures en l’église du Parc à Royan.

Il sera ensuite inhumé au cimetière Montperrier à Royan dans la plus stricte intimité.

Le maire d’Arces-sur-Gironde, Yves Pérochain ainsi que l’ensemble de son équipe municipale tiennent à rendre hommage à cet homme de devoir pour sa grande implication au sein de la commune.
